Edwardsburg, Brandywine lead All-Southwest Michigan wrestling team

Edwardsburg and Brandywine each placed two wrestlers on the All-Southwest Michigan Boys Wrestling Team, in a vote of area coaches.

The Eddies' Nathan Andrina, who was 46-6 and fifth at state in Division 2, was a first team pick at 165, and Colton Strawderman, 26-7 and a state qualifier, was named at 144.

Bobcats named were Gavin Schoff, 44-7 and third at state, at 157 pounds and Phil McLaurin, 41-10 and a state qualifier, at 215.

The only other area first team selection was Niles' Julian Means-Flewellen, 41-12 and a state qualifier, at 175.

Also named to the first team were Brady Baker (106), Cole Lausch (120) and Aaron Lucio (132) of Lakeshore. Baker was a state champ and named the top wrestler on the squad. Lucio, a state champion a year ago, was runner-up this year.

Rounding out the star squad were Austin Garcia of Lawton (113), Alejandro Saldana of Hartford (126), Landon Thomas of St. Joseph (138), Nolan Bergloin (150) and Gavin Turk (190) of Paw Paw and Braydon Ross of Decatur (285).

Lakeshore coach Ryan Quinn was named Coach of the Year after leading the Lancers to a 20-6 record and the Division 2 regional title.

All-Southwest Michigan girls team

Buchanan had two wrestlers and Brandywine one on the girls squad.

Bucks selected were Sadie Holloway (105) and Avery Scanlon (130). The Bobcats' Maddison Ward was picked at 145. Ward was 41-5 and the lone area state placer, finishing third.

Area honorable mentions were Halle Borders (130) and Mackenzie Witt (235) of Brandywine and Becca Hollars (130) of Niles.
