Eerie Island: Discovery Channel brings paranormal TV show to Mackinac

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Discovery Channel has brought its paranormal researchers to Michigan to investigate one of the state’s most “haunted” sites: Mackinac Island.

Two episodes of the latest season of “Expedition X” will focus on Mackinac Island. The first one, titled “Death Island,” aired last week. “Secrets of Mackinac” will air on Wednesday.

Everything you need to know about Mackinac Island

The first episode focused on Small Point, an allegedly haunted bed-and-breakfast on the island. For the second episode, hosts Phil Torres and Jessica Chobot are joined by The Ghost Brothers to explore “a lighthouse with a dark past.”

While Mackinac Island is now all about fudge, footpaths and ferries, the island’s bloody history makes it a prime candidate for spooky accusations. Indigenous historians say one tribe that used to live on the island was massacred by another, and the island served as the site of one of the first battles of the War of 1812.

The promotional team behind “Expedition X” claims the island is the “site of over a thousand years of bloodshed, and residents report they are now plagued by terrifying paranormal activity.”

The “Death Island” episode will re-air at 8 p.m. Wednesday followed by the new episode, “Secrets of Mackinac” at 9 p.m.

The Discovery Channel and its programming is available on most cable and internet packages and can be streamed on Hulu.
