Effort to improve Lawndale Park to honor Central Catholic teen who died in car crash

MASSILLON – An effort is underway to raise funds for park upgrades as a way to honor a Central Catholic High School junior who died in a car crash last October.

The funds are being accepted to improve Lawndale Park on the city's west side in the name of Jacob Brown, who was 16.

A memorial, multi-purpose sports wall for lacrosse, soccer and other sports, as well as a plaque and mural dedicated to Brown is the main upgrade the group of family members and friends is proposing for the park, which already has received a nod of approval from Massillon Parks and Recreation Board.

A sports equipment lending library, sidewalk upgrades, benches and picnic tables and a gaga ball pit are other proposed upgrades at the park.

Brown was member of the Central Catholic Crusaders swim team, soccer team and lacrosse team.

Lawndale Park has basketball courts, a playground and picnic area.
