Egg Hunt Roundup: Where to spend your Easter weekend in Northern Michigan

NORTHERN MICHIGAN — As Easter approaches, kids in Northern Michigan can hop in the Easter Bunny’s trail to collect some eggs and candy before the April 9 holiday.

Emmet County

Petoskey

Grandpa Shorter’s will have a special visitor in the days leading up to Easter. People can bring their furry friends into the store to have photos taken with the Easter Bunny. The store will be accepting donations for the Little Traverse Bay Humane Society during the event.

Pets can take photos with the Easter Bunny from 3-5 p.m. Saturday, April 2 and from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 6.

The bunny will be sticking around to take photos with children from 9:30-11 a.m. as well as at 1-4 p.m. on Friday, April 7. The bunny will be there from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 8 as well. The children will receive a treat from the Easter Bunny during their visit.

At Grandpa Shorter’s sister store, The Katydid, there will also be an Easter egg hunt. If you find five eggs in the store and turn them in on Friday or Saturday, you can receive a sweet treat, according to the store’s website.

The Emmet County and City of Petoskey Parks and Recreation departments are partnering for a Fairgrounds Egg Scramble from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 8 at the Emmet County Fairgrounds Community Building. The event will include an egg hunt. Guests should bring their own baskets.

American House Petoskey is teaming up with The Care Team for a hunt of their own this year as well, starting at 10:15 a.m. April 8 at the American House Petoskey location. There will be two different Easter egg hunts, split for ages 5 and under and ages 6-10. Each group will have the chance to find a golden egg. The children from each group that find the egg win a bicycle. Questions about the event can be directed to petoskey@americanhouse.com.

Harbor Springs

There will also be a hunt held at Zorn Park, hosted by the Harbor Springs Parks and Recreation Department. The hunt will begin at 11 a.m. April 8, rain or shine. Main Street will be closed off between State and Traverse streets during the event and bags will be provided to collect eggs. All ages are welcome and the Easter Bunny is expected to make an appearance.

Charlevoix County

East Jordan

On Saturday, April 8, the East Jordan Lions Club will be hosting the Easter Games in the East Jordan Elementary gym. There will be games, candy and prizes available for the children. Children ages 5-12 are eligible for prizes, and kids under 5 can still participate in the games and get candy. The Easter Bunny will also be at the event.

Boyne City

In Boyne City, an egg hunt will be held from 11 a.m. to noon on April 8 at Young State Park. Visitors need a recreation pass to enter the park. The egg hunt is reserved for children age 12 and under and the hunt will be near the day use area.

Another Easter egg hunt will be held at 2 p.m. April 7 at the Park of the Pines in Boyne City. The event is open to the public.

For the second year in a row, Boppi's Pizza is sponsoring an Easter egg hunt through Boyne City. Eggs will be hidden throughout the city the week leading up to Easter. With support from Boyne City Main Street, the Boyne City Farmer's Market, and the Boyne Arts Center, daily egg hunt locations and times will be posted on Boppi's Instagram account, @boppispizza.

The biggest hunt is set for Easter Sunday, April 9 at the Veteran's Memorial Park next to city hall. The plan is to have eggs ready to be searched for around 12:30 p.m.

Eggs found throughout the week will have candy, coupons from Boppi's Pizza and other local merchants, and more surprises, according to a Facebook post about the event.

Charlevoix

There will be an egg hunt in Charlevoix starting at 2 p.m. April 8 at East Park. The event will have eggs hunts for kids up to 10 years old. The age groups are kids under 2 years old, 2-4 years old, 5-6 years old, and 7-10 years old.

Cheboygan County

Cheboygan

In Cheboygan, the Downtown Development Authority will be hosting two egg hunts, split by age ranges. Starting at 10 a.m. April 8, kids 5 years old and under will be hunting in Washington Park. Kids 6 and older will be in Major City Park. Kids are encouraged to bring their own baskets and collect eggs.

Indian River

In Indian River, an egg hunt will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at Cooperation Park. The event will be for children 12 years old and younger.

Otsego County

Johannesburg

In Johannesburg, more than 1,000 eggs will be hidden at the Johannesburg Christian Church for children ages 1-13 to search for from noon-2 p.m. April 8.
