Egg mixture, french toast wash observed out of temperature at Myrtle Beach Pancake House

Each week inspectors from SC Department of Health and Environmental control perform unannounced routine food safety inspections.

The inspectors are checking various things, most importantly food safety at Myrtle Beach area restaurants, grocery stores, retail meat markets, bakeries, delis, school cafeterias seafood markets and convenience stores.

When a restaurant is out of compliance in a routine inspection it is noted on a SC Food Grade report and the establishment has a follow-up inspection within ten days to correct the violations.

This week inspectors found the following violations at these area establishments.

  1. Gino’s Real NY Pizza located at 2520 U.S. 17 S., Garden City had a routine inspection on April 4 and received 78 percent “B” grade. The following violations were found according to the SC Food Grades Report. “No paper towels readily available at the hand sink near the back door, observed supplies stored in the hand sink near the front register, observed knives, stored as clean, soiled with food debris, a mixer, stored as clean was soiled with debris, fryer baskets, stored as clean were soiled with grime, pizza sauce at 55 degrees in the walk-in cooler, make top cooler: pizza sauce 58 degrees, cut tomatoes 52 degrees, cooked spinach 44 degrees, ready-to-eat foods, prepared and held beyond 24 hours, without any date marking.Walk-in cooler: cooked chicken wings, cooked sausage, pizza sauce, shredded cheeses, observed a damaged ceiling tile in the kitchen, the ac unit above is leaking onto the floor below.” Gino’s Pizza is scheduled to have a follow-up inspection within 10 days.

  2. IHop Pancake House located at 100 Legends Dr., Myrtle Beach had a routine inspection on April 3 and received 74 percent “C” grade. The following violations were found according to the SC Food Grades Report. “Hand washing not observed during task changes, Shell egg, liquid egg and french toast wash observed were held out of temperature control and not labeled correctly for date/time, soiled wiping cloths observed stored on prep surfaces and not stored inside an approved sanitizer concentration, water line from the ice machine observed with broken pipe connection, draining water on to the floor, not into a sanitary drain. IHop will have a follow-up inspection with the next 10 days.

  3. Marina Inn Beach Cabana located at 8121 Amalfi Place had a routine inspection on April 5 and received 85 Percent “B” grade. The following violations were found according to the SC Food Grades Report. “Certified Food handler not verified, no paper towels provided at hand sink, personal pizza left at room temp around 77 degrees, black cooler: watermelon 66 degrees, red cooler: deli sandwiches 65 degrees, red bugs observed on pizza boxes, 2 coolers being used for food storage that is not NSF approved, no test kit provided for sanitizer, Inadequate refrigeration provided.Voluntary closure. A follow-up inspection was performed on April 6 with 100 percent “A” grade.

  4. River Oaks Pizzeria located at 157 Sapwood Rd. Unit 107, Myrtle Beach had a routine inspection on March 31 and received 84 percent “B” grade. River Oaks Pizzeria had a follow-up inspection on April 5 and received 97 percent “A” grade according to the SC Food Grades Report.

“INSPECTION KEY”

A | 100 - 88 - The retail food establishment earned more than 87 points. Food safety practices appeared to meet the requirements of Regulation 61-25.

B | 87 - 78 - The retail food establishment earned 78-87 points. Food safety practices need improvement.

C | 77 & Below - The retail establishment earned less than 78 points. Food safety practices need significant improvement.

R | Indicates a Routine Inspection - Unannounced and conducted on a frequency determined by the facility’s Risk Category on a frequency of one to four times a year.

F | Indicates a Follow-Up Inspection - Conducted within ten days of a Routine Inspection that requires follow-up verification.
