Egypt mosques reopen for Friday prayer
Egypt closed mosques and banned public gatherings in March to contain the spread of coronavirus, but gradually eased restrictions in June and July when coronavirus infections started to decrease.
Mosques reopened for the first time late June with strict health and safety protocols, but worshippers were not allowed to perform Friday prayer which usually sees the highest turnout.
Cairo's historic al-Azhar mosque opened its doors to scores of worshippers, including men, women and even non-Egyptians.
Egypt has witnessed a slight increase in coronavirus infections, with 237 new cases and 25 deaths on Thursday (August 27).
The country has so far recorded 98,062 coronavirus cases, including 5,342 deaths.
