Eight Berks boys tennis doubles teams to begin play in District 3 championships Friday

May 11—Eight Berks boys tennis doubles teams, four in each class, will participate in the District 3 championships, which will be held Friday and Saturday at Hershey Racquet Club.

In the Class 2A draw are Conrad Weiser's Armaan Malik and Jio Garcia, who are seeded second; Wyommissing's Truman Peters and Max Herr; Kutztown's Blake Nolte and Otis Engel; and Conrad Weiser's Eric Yazemboski and Reed Kopcik.

In the Class 3A draw are Exeter's Teddy Snyder and Jake Tryanski, the BCIAA Flight 1 champs who are seeded third; Reading High's Zach Schrader and Joel Rodriguez; Daniel Boone's Sam Shank and Evan Miller; and Wilson's Ben Winkler and Austin Kohler.

In Class 2A opening-round matches Friday at 11 a.m., Malik and Garcia will play Annville-Cleona's Sam Domencic and Jared Hostetter; Peters and Herr will face Hanover's Brian Corona and Charlie Zitto; Nolte and Engel will play James Buchanan's Luke Helman and Ty Grove; and Yazemboski and Kopcik will take on third-seeded Carson Weigle and Julian Clark of Lancaster Country Day.

Yazemboski and Kopcik led Weigle and Clark 6-4, 2-3 at No. 1 doubles when Wednesday's District 3 Class 2A championship match was clinched by the Cougars.

The quarterfinals will follow.

In Class 3A opening-round matches Friday at noon, Snyder and Tryanski will face Manheim Township's Kurt Chiong and Jake Palandjian; Shank and Miller will play top-seeded Aidan Mahaffey and Tyler Mahaffey of Palmyra, who are the two-time defending champs; Schrader and Rodriguez will meet Donegal's Akilan Murugesan and Landon Keller; and Winkler and Kohler will take on Cumberland Valley's Sami Kazi and Ross Kluger.

Snyder and Tryanski would face Schrader and Rodriguez in the quarterfinals later Friday if both teams win. The Exeter team beat the Reading High duo 6-2, 7-5 in the BCIAA Flight 1 final.

The semifinals in both classes will be Saturday at Hershey Racquet Club at 1 p.m. The finals will follow.
