They're known for their contributions to different sports.

Track, basketball and football stars and more.

Saturday, eight people were honored for their athletic achievements with induction into the Rockland County Sports Hall of Fame.

The inductions and coinciding Hall of Fame 50th anniversary celebration drew 240 people to a dinner at Paramount Country Club in New City.

The inductees included Dave Billings, Heidi Higgins-Sermabekian, Mary (Brechbiel) Agnetti, Shawn Kapusinsky, Kimberly McDole-Gordon, Jim Scaringe, Joe Famellette and the late Lance Arietta.

Billings (Nyack Class of 1972), who now lives in Middletown, was state outdoor two-mile champion as a senior and that year also won the state Class B boys cross-country title. Billings later was a cross-country All-American for Nyack College.

High school basketball scoring records are incomplete for Mary (then-Brechbiel) Agnetti (Albertus Magnus Class of 1974), although it's strongly believed she put in well over 1,000 points.

Agnetti, who now lives in South Carolina, amassed more than 1,500 points for Mercy College. The first female at Mercy to be awarded an athletic scholarship, she, had more than 400 assists, pulled down close to 700 rebounds and had nearly 500 steals during her four-year career there.

McDole-Gordon remains a familiar local face, representing track, the sport at which she exceled in high school, for both Spring Valley and Ramapo, and then at the University of Houston.

The 1983 Ramapo grad, who lives in Spring Valley, was a two-time Loucks Games long jump winner and was both an indoor and outdoor state long jump champion. She was also the state 100-meter girls champion as a senior and was part of two state-champion outdoor 4x400 relay teams at Ramapo.

She's the current Dominican University jumps coach and is a Rockland County track official.

Higgins-Sermabekian, a 1981 Spring Valley grad, was a three-sport (soccer, basketball and softball) high school star and still holds multiple Rockland soccer goaltending records.

She earned a full basketball scholarship to Nazareth College and remains among the college's all-time leading rebounders.

Famellette, 88, was honored as winner of the hall's Joseph Holland Lifetime Achievement Award for his 50 years of coaching at Rockland Community College.

The Katonah resident oversaw eight sports there at one time or another and coached multiple undefeated teams, including in women's tennis, a program he started at RCC. Famellette coached nine All-Americans between soccer and wrestling.

Kapusinsky, a highly successful North Rockland (Class of 1986) tennis player, skier and golfer, who's currently coaches skiing there, was best known for golf, which he also played for Penn State.

On the high school level, he was a four-time all-section golfer, a section champion and a state medalist, as well as South Atlantic Junior Championship silver medalist.

Scaringe, who graduated from Tappan Zee High in 1973, was an all-state football player, a top wrestler and a Daily News First-Team Tri-State baseball player.

He went on to play football for West Virginia University, Nassau Community College and East Stroudsburg State.

Arietta, who died in 2017, also starred for Tappan Zee (Class of 1976). He was both a state indoor and outdoor pole vault champion. He later pole vaulted for the University of Texas-El Paso.
