Eight MS Coast restaurants fail health inspections. Three had bugs, rodents or animals

Eight restaurants and kitchens in South Mississippi scored a C for critical violations since Sept. 22, some with bugs, rodents or animals on the premises.

Restaurants and other food service establishments in Mississippi are rated “A” if they pass the health department inspection, “B” if violations are corrected during the inspection, and “C” if the violations are critical.

Those that failed their inspection with a C:

Arby’s, 342 U.S. 90, Waveland, was inspected Oct 5 for a permit renewal. It was cited for: No certified manager.

Corrected during the inspection were:

Adequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible

Food separated and protected

Food contact surface cleaned and sanitized

Toxic substance properly identified, stored and used

Insects, rodents or animals present

This was the only C dating back to 2022.

IHOP, 500 South Loftin, Picayune, was inspected Oct. 5 following a complaint. It was cited for:

No certified manager

Food contact surface not cleaned and sanitized

Insects, rodents or animals present

Sewage wastewater not properly disposed of

A follow-up inspection on Oct. 6 showed all issues cleared, and the restaurant got a B.

This was the second C since 2021.

Peterson’s Quick Stop, 30285 Mississippi 603, Perkinston, was inspected Sept. 11 for a permit renewal. It was cited for:

Food contact surface not cleaned and sanitized

Insects, rodents or animals present

Corrected during the inspection was hands clean and properly washed.

This is the only C dating back to 2008.

McDonald’s, 110 Eisenhower Dr., Biloxi, was inspected Sept. 30 for a permit renewal. It was cited for: Inadequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible.

Corrected during the inspection was: Food separated and protected

This was the first C dating back to 2013.

Lakeview Catfish Restaurant, 9701 U.S. 90, Moss Point, was inspected Sept. 29 for a permit renewal. It was cited for: Improper cold holding temperatures.

This was the second C since 2020.

Keith’s Superstore, 102 E. Beach Blvd., Pass Christian, was inspected Sept. 24 for a permit renewal. It was cited for: Food contact surface not cleaned and sanitized.

This was the first C dating back to 2014.

Jazz Quarters, 1816 30th Ave., Gulfport, was inspected Oct. 2 for a permit. It was cited for no certified manager. This is the first C dating back to 2013.

Domino’s Pizza, 7100 Mississippi 63, Moss Point, was inspected Sept. 25 for a permit renewal. It was cited for: No certified manager.

This was the only C dating back to 2020.

Since Sept. 22, Mississippi State Department of Health inspectors have given 132 restaurants in South Mississippi an A for no violations and 18 a B when violations were corrected during the inspection.
