Girl, 3, dies after crash involving seven other people on northeast side of Indianapolis

Update: Three-year-old Aniyah Cheshier died on June 1, 2022, from injuries she suffered in a crash near the intersection of East 38th Street and North Layman Avenue, according to the Marion County Coroner's Office.

Eight people were transported to area hospitals Sunday afternoon — two with critical injuries — after a head-on collision on the city's northeast side.

The crash happened at about 1 p.m. near the intersection of East 38th Street and North Layman Avenue between a Dodge Ram pickup and a Lincoln passenger car.

A spokesperson for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said one driver is listed in critical condition and the other driver is in serious but stable condition.

Out of six juveniles involved, whose ages were not immediately released, one is in critical condition and the other five are in serious but stable condition.

An investigation into the crash was ongoing as of 5 p.m. Sunday.
