Eight vie for Jefferson County Homecoming Queen Friday, Sept. 23

Friday, Sept. 23, during halftime of the school's football game, eight Jefferson County High School seniors will compete for the title of JCHS Homecoming Queen.

The contestants are as follows.

Mary Whilhelmina Hodges
Mary Whilhelmina Hodges

Mary Wilhelmina Hodges is the daughter of Matthew and Tammy Hodges of Louisville. During high school, she has been involved in One Act Play, FFA, Skills USA, Principal's Council, and BETA Club. She has represented JCHS in extemporaneous speaking at both the region and state levels. During her time in high school, she has been both an on and off-air contributor to Warrior TV. Currently, she is a part of Youth Leadership Jefferson County and serves on the Georgia School Board Student Advisory Council. Hodges has been a competitive dancer with Stephanie's Dance Explosion for 12 years.  After high school, she plans to attend the University of Alabama and major in news media.

Markayla Wyatts
Markayla Wyatts

Markayla Watts is the daughter of Mark and Valarie Watts. During her time at JCHS, she has participated in BETA Club, Skills USA, Key Club, 4-H and DECA. She has been a part of many extra curricular activities such as soccer, cheer and track. She is currently in dual enrollment and is in the youth leadership program. She is also a part of the student council. She plans to attend the University of Georgia, majoring in chemistry and aspires to be a veterinarian, one day owning her own clinic.

Jeyly Ambrosio-Ruiz
Jeyly Ambrosio-Ruiz

Jeyly Ambrosio-Ruiz is the daughter of Higinio Ambrosio and Socorro Ruiz. She plays the clarinet in the JCHS Band, is FFA president and the Key Club secretary. She is actively involved with the Spanish Club and BETA club. She is also a part of the youth leadership program. After high school she plans to attend Augusta University to become a pediatric oncology nurse to help children diagnosed with cancer. As a cancer survivor herself, she wants to inspire others and support them to overcome the difficulties and challenges of fighting cancer.

C'khia Beasley
C'khia Beasley

C’Khia Beasley is the daughter of Calvin Beasley and Latoria Vaughner of Wrens. She was the class representative for 9th, 10th and 11th grade. She was also class president. She is a part of youth leadership, BETA Club, Skills USA, FCCLA, an FGE member, as well as Octagon Club. She is also involved in many sports such as basketball, cross country, track, soccer and flag football. After high school she plans to attend college on a basketball scholarship while getting a dual degree for business management and fashion design.

Paris Russell
Paris Russell

Paris Russell is the daughter of JJ Russell and Crista Hochell of Wrens. Paris has been involved in many sports, including cross country and flag football. She was named all region first team and all area first team for softball. After high school she plans to attend a four year school while continuing her softball career. She intends to major in biology to become a forensic pathologist.

Amya Morgan
Amya Morgan

Amya Morgan is the daughter of Christopher Morgan and Shenequa Harden. She has been a part of various clubs, including BETA Club, Drama, Key Club, DECA. She is also a member of the student council. Morgan has also been a part of the soccer team and ran track. After high school, she plans to attend Clark Atlanta University. She intends to major in biology to become a travel surgical technician. She also wants to continue to pursue her career in modeling and one day open up her own modeling agency.

Alandria Emetu
Alandria Emetu

Alandria Emtu is the daughter of Anthony and Ivette Emtu. She has participated in volleyball and cheerleading. She is an active member of Key Club as well as the student council. After high school she plans to attend Clayton State and major in business and entrepreneurship.

Kyla Jones
Kyla Jones

Kyla Jones is the daughter of Cornilous Jones and Simonica Mitchell. She has been a part of many school activities such as BETA, a SkillsUSA officer, Octagon Club,4-H and Key Club. She was also a part of Warrior TV and a Reach Scholar. She was a part of the Prom committee, a National Society High School Scholar and was a part of the Student Council. After High school she plans to attend Kennesaw State University where she intends to major in business and marketing management with a minor in biology. Her goal is to become an accountant and realtor.

Representing the junior class is Ta’Niya Gibbons. She is the daughter of Kenneth and Tamellia Gibbons Sr. She is a member of the BETA Club, Key Club, FCCLA and FGE. She is also a part of the Octagon Club, Drama, DECA and Skills USA. After High school she plans to attend college to become a dental hygienist.

Representing the sophomore class is Cannati Howard. She is the daughter of Robert Lewis and Tynessa Howard. She is actively involved with Key Club, FCCLA, FGE and BETA Club. After high school she intends to join the military reserves. She would also like to get a degree in teaching k-5th grade.

Representing the freshman class is Turkayla Battle. She is the daughter of Torrie Battle and Phylicia Butts. She is an active member of BETA Club as well as Key Club. After High school she intends to go to Georgia Southern University to study early childhood education.
