Eight young women honored by Somerset Welfare League

The Somerset Welfare League will hold the 59th annual Christmas Cotillion at the Somerset Country Club Dec. 29. Each of the eight honorees volunteered more than 100 hours of community service.

Bella Grace Baumgardner is the daughter of Carrie Baumgardner and Brad Baumgardner. She attends St. Vincent College, majoring in biology and minors in Spanish. She hopes to attend dental school in the future and become an orthodontist. Her service hours included time spent with the Wounded Warriors Pheasant Hunt, Little Eagles basketball camps and softball clinics, Somerset fire hall, the Valley School of Ligonier, Meadow View Nursing Home and The Patriot. She enjoys playing tennis, spending time with family and friends, painting, writing, cooking and baking. Baumgardner’s escort is Spencer Marteeny.

Eva Marie Frazier is the daughter of Lisa and Barry Frazier. She attends Allegheny Community College as a forestry major and hopes to become a park ranger. Her service hours were completed at Girl Scouts of Western Pennsylvania, Somerset Food Bank, Somerset Welfare League, Somerset Meals on Wheels, St. Peter’s Church, and Somerset Youth Volleyball program. She enjoys skiing, hiking, working out, reading, spending time with family and friends, and caring for her chickens. Her escort is Cole Marker.

Adalyn Geary is the daughter of Angela and Justin Gibson and Beryl Geary. She is a freshman at West Virginia University majoring in agricultural education and minoring in Spanish studies. She plans to become a high school agriculture teacher. Geary has completed her service hours at many 4-H Day Camps throughout the county, the County Fair Dairy Bar, the Extension Office and Ag Day at Eagle View Elementary. She enjoys raising livestock, snowboarding and hunting. Her escort is Caleb Antram.

Alexia Powers is the daughter of Nicole Powers and David Powers. She attends the University of Tennessee, where she majors in nursing and has plans to become a travel nurse. She has completed her service hours at Somerset County Fair, Fort Ligonier Days, the Veteran’s Food program, and with the local elderly. She enjoys skiing and tennis. Her escort is Ethan Hemminger.

Brynn Marie Pugh is the daughter of Albert and Roslyn Pugh. She is employed at the Somerset County Jail and is a correctional officer. Pugh has completed her service hours at the Somerset County Fair, Make-a-Wish Foundation, Somerset Area FFA and A-Cut-Above 4-H Club. She enjoys snowboarding and working on vehicles. Her escort is Scott Showman.

McKenna Delaney Shaffer is the daughter of Doug and Wendy Shaffer. She attends the University of Pittsburgh, majoring in psychology with a focus on pre-occupational therapy and hopes to become an occupational therapist specializing in pediatrics. Shaffer’s service hours included time spent at Trinity Lutheran Church, Somerset Soccer Boosters, the Salvation Army, Somerset Food Pantry, Kiwanis Club and the Ann Harris Smith Foundation. She enjoys yoga, hiking, baking, shopping, traveling and spending time with friends and family. Her escort is Matthew Bowser.

Masin Rosabelle Wahl is the daughter of Edward and Dayna Wahl. She attends the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, where she studies early childhood education. She has plans to become a preschool teacher and possibly study special education as well. Wahl’s service hours were completed at St. Paul’s UCC, Somerset High School Interact Club and New Beginnings. She enjoys singing, riding four-wheelers, working at the daycare, fishing and hunting. Her escort is Jed Heiple.

Haley Jo Vought is the daughter of Amy and Greg Vought. She is enrolled at Seton Hill University in the BS/MS Physician Assistant program and hopes to become a physician assistant. Her service hours were spent at the Ann Harris Smith Foundation, St. Peter School, Somerset Area Soccer Boosters, Somerset High School Interact Club, Students Against Destructive Decisions and the National Honor Society. She enjoys baking, shopping, reading and spending time with friends. Vought's escort is McKay Ross.
