El Mesón restaurant property for sale

Sep. 6—El Mesón closed in November after nearly 25 years, and owners David and Kelly Huertas have had the 4,577-square-foot structure — and all the furnishings and equipment for a restaurant and bar — on the market since March 25.

The list price is $2.5 million after getting no takers at $2.75 million, said associate broker Alexanna Padilla, who is representing the property along with associate broker Philip Gudwin, both of Santa Fe Properties.

"The restaurant market has taken a little turn in the last five-six months," Padilla said. "Investors are more cautious. In this day and age, it's difficult to get labor; it's difficult to get materials."

Padilla said she has had interest in the property, but nobody has gone under contract.

The Huertas have owned the property since they opened El Mesón in 1997. Before that, Dee and Bernie Rusanowski owned it and operated Dee's Donuts from 1976 to 1996 before they went on to open Saveur Bistro in 2003.

The Santa Fe County Assessor says the building at 213 Washington St. was built in 1951. Early tenants included Ramona's Garden Patio and Dolores Fast Food.
