El Paso athletes finding success at college level

Several former El Paso high school athletes are finding success at the college level. Here is a look at how some of them are doing in various sports.

Andress graduate and Oral Roberts women's basketball player Hannah Cooper scored 15 points, had 9 rebounds and dished out 6 assists against Oklahoma, and also scored 39 points points had 4 steals, 4 rebounds and 3 assists against UNLV.

Andress graduate Jeremiah Cooper has 32 tackles for the Iowa State football team.

Del Valle graduate Adryan Alvarez scored 36 points in her first two games this season for the University of Dallas.

San Elizario graduate Tori Perez has scored 22 points in her first two college games for Colorado Christian University.

Franklin graduate Katia Gallegos scored seven points in her first two games for the University of Tulsa.

Franklin graduate David Powers plays linebacker for Wofford University and leads team in tackles with 61 and also had two quarterback hurries.

San Diego State defensive back Cedarious Barfield makes a tackle against UNLV on Saturday, Oct. 24. Barfield graduated from El Dorado High School and is a key contributor for SDSU.

El Dorado graduate Cedarious Barfield had 31 tackles, one interception and two forced fumbles for San Diego State University.

El Paso High graduate Alyssa Sianez had 141 digs for the UTEP volleyball team.

Franklin graduate Alyssa Duran has 182 digs and 21 service aces for UT-Arlington.

Americas graduate Adebukola Akomolafe has scored five points in two games for Virginia Commonwealth University women's basketball and has been a key reserve off the bench.

Franklin graduate Bianca Chacon scored 5 goals and had 9 assists for the New Mexico State women's soccer team, which won the WAC Tournament title and reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history.

Eastlake graduate Stephanie Sanchez has 76 kills and 16 block assists for UT-Permian Basin volleyball.

Burges graduate Tristen Newton scored 20 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and had 4 assists in his first two games for the University of Connecticut.

El Paso High graduate Hannah Payan was named to the American Southwest Conference second-team for the LeTourneau University volleyball team. She had 283 kills this season.

Franklin graduate Madison Blanco has 29 digs and 5 service aces for the University of New Mexico.

Burges graduate Jawuan Newton is averaging 5.7 points and 5.0 rebounds for the Southern Illinois men's basketball team.

Franklin graduate John Key recently earned Male Swimmer of the Week for Trinity University, which competes in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. He swims in the breaststroke and individual medley events.
