El Paso Children's Museum celebrates construction progress with topping-out ceremony

El Paso Children's Museum officials celebrated a milestone in its construction progress Wednesday.

Six representatives, including Josh Hunt, chairman of the board for the El Paso Children's Museum, signed their names on a beam that was hoisted to the top of the structure, marking the end of the building's skeletal frame construction.

A tree on top of the beam was donned with clouds as a crane carefully moved it across the construction site.

"Our building is the shape of imagination, just like the clouds that surround El Paso," said Karla Salazar, director of operations. "It makes a metaphor about imagination concerning so many different things, just like the clouds. If you see a flower, I'll see a bear. The beauty of this museum is that you can really take your imagination and do with it what you want and be super creative."

Building layout plans and digital renderings of the exterior were on display at the site of the planned El Paso Children's Museum in Downtown on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2020.
