El Paso County Sheriff's Office unveils new uniforms; deputy honored as community hero
The El Paso County Sheriff's Office on Thursday will officially unveil new deputy uniforms with a different color scheme.
The new Sheriff's Office uniforms feature a black shirt with gray pants. The old uniforms were gray on gray. The sheriff's badge and patch remain the same.
The current patch was adopted in 1986 by Sheriff Leo Samaniego and depicts three of the many cultures of the old Southwest with representations of a Native American, a Spanish conquistador, and a cowboy, along with the Texas flag.
Deputy honored as community hero
In other news, a deputy was recently recognized by the El Paso County Sheriff's Office as a "community hero" for his volunteer work coaching children.
Deputy Jaime Fuentes coaches soccer on his own time and for free by helping train boys and girls from all grades at Ricardo Estrada Middle School in the area of Horizon City, the Sheriff's Office stated. Fuentes coaches two training sessions daily, one at 6 a.m. before his shift on duty and one after his shift ends. He also coaches games on weekends.

The Sheriff's Office stated: "His commitment and involvement with the county youth are a testament to his character. Thank you, Deputy Fuentes, for 'Serving with Pride.'"
