El Paso honors civil rights leader César Chávez at Lincoln Park celebration

A shooting during a car clubs gathering on Feb. 25 has resulted in the cancelation of this year's annual César Chávez Day lowrider show at Lincoln Park in South-Central El Paso.

El Pasoans gathered Sunday at Lincoln Park to celebrate the legacy of late labor and civil rights leader César Chávez, who died in 1993.

The annual event features lowriders, custom bicycles, music, food and pachuco fashion.

The city will observe César Chávez Day on Friday, when all city of El Paso administrative offices will be closed.

Offices and services that will be closed are:

· Municipal Court/bond offices

· Human resources offices

· One-Stop Shop

· Tax office

· Purchasing department

· Economic Development Department

· Community and Human Development Department

· Community Care Center and immunization clinics

· Rawlings Dental Clinic

· WIC Offices and Medicaid Waver Program

· HIV Prevention Center and STD Clinic

· Chest clinic/tuberculosis program

· El Paso Public Libraries

· All recreation centers, senior centers, aquatics facilities and sports fields

· City COVID-19 vaccination sites

· El Paso Museum of Archaeology, Museum of Art, and Museum of History

Offices or services that will be open are:

· Garbage and recycling collection services (regular hours)

· Greater El Paso Landfill (regular hours)

· Citizen Collection Stations (regular hours)

· Animal Services: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

· Sun Metro (all routes, BRIO and LIFT services)

· El Paso Zoo and Botanical Garden: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

· El Paso International Airport
