El Paso owned Jackie's Warrior wins Count Fleet Handicap in return to racetrack
El Paso owned Jackie's Warrior won the $500,000 Count Fleet Handicap on Saturday at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
The 4-year-old Kentucky-bred that is owned by El Paso's Kirk and Judy Robison was making his first start of 2022, winning the six furlong race in 1 minute, 9.09. Jackie's Warrior never trailed in the race and won by three quarters of a length over Letsgetlucky.
Steve Asmussen trains Jackie's Warrior, who won the Eclipse Award for Champion Male Sprinter in 2021. The winning jockey was Joel Rosario. Jackie's Warrior left the post as the 1-2 favorite in the six-horse field. He earned $300,000 for the winning owners.
"It's definitely a 10," said Asmussen when asked to rate the performance from 1-10 by a TVG reporter after the race. "Thanks to Judy and Kirk for letting us run again here at Oaklawn. What a fitting race for him to run in."
Robison said earlier in the week the goal is for Jackie's Warrior to win the Breeders' Cup Sprint later this year.
