El Paso Roller Derby, Bug Fest, and community cleanup are set for the weekend

The El Paso Roller Derby gals always put on an exciting show for fans of girl power and power moves.
Families are encouraged to take their kids outdoors with the National Take Kids to Parks Day. There will be some fun activities for them at Ascarate Park.

Get buggy at El Paso Zoo
The El Paso Zoo is excited to bring back Bug Fest from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, sponsored by Truly Nolen Pest & Termite Control. Guests will have the opportunity to interact with different bugs from all over the world and to even try some bug delicacies prepared by the Zoo's executive chef. Admission: $7.50 for children 2-12 years (babies 23 months and younger get in free), $9 for teens 13-17, $12 for adults 19 to 59, and $7 for seniors and active-duty members of the military.
Student performance of Disney's The Lion King Jr.
The Paso Del Norte Fine Arts Academy will present Disney’s The Lion King Jr. at 6 p.m. Friday and at 2 and 5 p.m. Saturday at El Dorado High School theater, 12401 Edgemere Blvd. The 90-minute performance is an adaptation of the award-winning Broadway musical and the 1994 Disney film. El Paso Roller Derby
Head out to Nations Tobin Park as the El Paso Roller Derby hosts the first Sibling Rivalry game on Saturday. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Fans get to control the game by releasing skaters from the penalty box and switching up the rosters. There will be half-time entertainment and food trucks. Tickets are $12 and $10 for active military with ID at the door. Kids 10 and younger get in free with a paying ticket. Games are bring-your-own beer for 21 and older. No glass containers. Take Kids to Parks Day
The El Paso County Parks and Recreation Department invites the public to celebrate National Kids to Parks Day on Saturday at the Ascarate Park Pavilion, 6900 Delta Drive. Kids to Parks Day is an annual day of outdoor exploration at local, state, and national parks and public lands across the country. The free family-friendly event will include a kid fish derby (7:30 a.m.) pet adoptions (9 a.m.) and a kids creation corner.
'Here, and the Wind' Family Day
The Rubin Center for Fine Arts will celebrate Family Day inspired by nature and the Rio Bosque from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at 500 W. University Ave. Take part in eco-friendly art-making activities while you get to explore the current exhibition, "Here, and the Wind." The exhibition documents the process of community engagement in the creation of the performance, considering the intersections between land, movement, research and conservation. Free and open to the public. Free parking is available in front of the Rubin Center and in the Sun Bowl Parking Garage.
Free community cleanup
The El Paso County Public Works is offering a free community cleanup event from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at Hueco Mountain Estates on Pony Express Road (between Quinn Ave. & Old Butterfield Trail). People can drop off passenger vehicle tires that are 18 inches or smaller (five per resident), bulk trash including chairs and carpet, and electronic waste such as computers, tablets, video games, cellphones and DVD players. No CRT monitors or televisions. Information: 915-546-2015.
