El Sol returns to Cinco de Mayo 2023

May 4—Great Bend High School's El Sol folk dance club will be featured at Saturday's Cinco de Mayo celebration in Jack Kilby Square.

Club sponsor Cristina Montes said students will dance to three songs. "We have changed one of the traditional songs to a more modern rhythm."

El Sol's purpose is to bring traditional dances to the community and have student involvement.

"We not only dance but it also gives students a chance to connect with each other," Montes said. "We treat performance opportunities like any other activity at GBHS; students have to be passing classes to be able to leave the school and represent GBHS at the different performances throughout the year."
