'Elden Ring' Game of the Year acceptance speech interrupted by stage crasher

Fantasy RPG “Elden Ring,” developed by Japanese video game development company FromSoftware, was recently crowned The Game Awards' 2022 Game of the Year.

During the prestigious award ceremony on Thursday, the game beat out "A Plague Tale: Requiem," "God of War Ragnarök," "Horizon Forbidden West," "Stray" and "Xenoblade Chronicles 3" to win the top prize.

"Elden Ring" was released on Feb. 25. Its worldbuilding was notably provided by American fantasy writer George R. R. Martin of “A Game of Thrones” fame.

In addition to being named 2022’s Game of the Year, “Elden Ring” also won three other Game Awards for Best Game Direction, Best Art Direction and Best Action/Adventure Game.

FromSoftware is no newcomer to success, having previously developed hit games such as “Dark Souls” and “Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.”

A bizarre incident during Thursday’s award ceremony also made headlines.

During "Elden Ring" director Hidetaka Miyazaki's acceptance speech for Game of the Year, an individual identified as being a 15-year-old named Matan interrupted him and grabbed his microphone.

“Hey, my turn,” the stage crasher said. “You know, real quick, I want to thank everybody and say I think I want to nominate [sic] this award to my reformed orthodox rabbi, Bill Clinton. Thank you, everybody."

Geoff Keighley, the show’s organizer and host, confirmed in a tweet that the person has been arrested.

Several social media users took to Twitter to share memes and jokes about the incident.

"Bill Clinton is a game so good it won GOTY 2022 before it got made. A true masterpiece," one Twitter user wrote.

"Between this and 'Milf Hunter' winning a Steam Deck, today may be the most pivotal day in gaming history so far this decade," another user wrote.
