Elder Care is offering a series of seminars to help older adults and their families begin a conversation about the ultimate need to downsize their parent's home.

"We are discovering as our population ages, more adult children are left with the burden of downsizing their parents’ homes," said Angie Thompson, Elder Care development director. "They tell us they wish their parents would have had conversations about 'things' while they were physically and mentally able to do so."

Panelists from various backgrounds will present more than three seminars during August. The events will include experts in family counseling, estate sale auctions, computers and electronics, jewelry appraisal, hazardous waste disposal, real estate, resale shops, and wills and trusts.

Thompson said she encourages everyone interested in the subject to attend, especially families who may have questions about where and how to begin downsizing.

“Many families face the daunting task of transitioning and need guidance and support to compartmentalize the process and help make it more manageable," Thompson said. "Over our lifetime, we collect special things, and knowing the best way to transition is important – especially when families are involved.”

All who are interested in the subject are encouraged to attend. For planning purposes, guests are asked to RSVP in advance to Elder Care at (918) 336-8500.
