Elderly Asian American woman, 68, chased and punched to the ground in Chelsea

An elderly Asian American woman was pushed to the ground while crossing the street in Manhattan, New York.

The New York Police Department Hate Crimes Task Force released surveillance footage of the 68-year-old woman holding her hands up and running from a man who chased her at about 8:50 a.m. on April 24.

The footage shows the man hitting the woman in her torso and knocking her to the ground next to a parked car before he walks away. The incident took place at the intersection of 9th Avenue and West 19th Street in Chelsea.

The victim was taken to Lenox Health Greenwich Village Hospital in stable condition but suffered bruised ribs and back pain, according to Fox5.




Authorities are looking into what may have led up to the incident and the suspect's possible motives. They are investigating the incident as a possible hate crime and are currently searching for the attacker.
