Election 2022: Your guide to Pennsylvania's primary candidates

A voter heads into the polling place at the Monaca Library Tuesday afternoon.

Voters statewide will head to the polls on May 17 to cast ballots in Pennsylvania’s Primary Election.

It's a crowded field, with 11 candidates vying for retiring Sen. Pat Toomey's seat — four Democrats and seven Republicans — and nine Republicans running to face Democratic Attorney General Josh Shapiro in Pennsylvania's race for governor.

In Beaver County, voters will decide who they want to fill U.S. Rep. Conor Lamb's District 17 seat. Lamb is seeking the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate. Local residents will vote for candidates in the state's 46th Senatorial District, 14th Legislative District, 15th Legislative District and 16th Legislative District.

To help you prepare to vote, USA Today’s Pennsylvania Network and the Beaver County Times polled candidates in select contested primary and general election races for federal and state offices, including U.S. Senate, U.S. House, Pennsylvania governor and the state's General Assembly representing Beaver and Lawrence counties. Learn more about these candidates in their own words in this 2022 Voters Guide.

Pennsylvania has a closed primary — only voters registered as Democrats or Republicans can vote for their party's nominees on May 17. To check your registration status, or update your information, visit vote.pa.gov. Registered voters can still request a mail-in or absentee ballot online. Applications must be received by the county election board by 5 p.m. May 10.
