It's Election Day, and there's still time to cast your ballot in Oregon.

In the past, ballots needed to arrive at county elections offices by 8 p.m. on Election Day to be counted. This year, ballots simply need to be postmarked by Election Day on Tuesday and can be received up to seven days after to be considered valid.

This change is due to a law passed by the Oregon Legislature in 2021.

Voters can also submit their ballots at drop sites around the state rather than using the mail.

Results will be released starting at 8 p.m. on election night. Find live results at registerguard.com and find articles on the results in Thursday's Register-Guard print edition.

Voter turnout so far

More than 98,000 voters have cast a ballot for the general election as of Friday, according to the Lane County Clerk's Office.

Ballots went out Oct. 20 and must be postmarked by Tuesday or received at a drop site by 8 p.m. on Election Day.

There are 275,370 registered voters in Lane County. As of Friday, the clerk's office had received ballots from 98,019.

That's a 35.6% turnout with a few days still left to go until Election Day. The last midterm election in 2018 had a 69.2% turnout.
