ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – Governor Greg Abbott paid a visit to the Key City Tuesday afternoon as he campaigned for Liz Case, who is running for the Texas House of Representatives in District 71. Incumbent Rep. Stan Lambert also hosted a campaign event Tuesday evening as both candidates completed a final stretch on the campaign trail before Election Day next Tuesday.

The race for District 71 has been top of mind for voters, but Rep. Stan Lambert said the issue is more than who wins the race.

“This is not an election between me and her (candidate Case). This is an election about control. It is about losing our rural voice in Austin, Texas if we don’t get out and finish this race strong in the next six to seven days,” explained Rep. Lambert at a rally held at The Grace Museum.

Addressing rumors of his opponent, Rep. Lambert said, “Liz just moved here recently. I don’t know when she moved, but she says she’s lived here for a while. She still has a homestead exemption in Dallas County.”

Just a few blocks over, Case said she was ready to support Gov. Abbott as rallied at 201 Mesquite.

“Governor Abbott hasn’t had the support that he needed in the Texas house for a good while, but that’s gonna change, ” assured Case in a recent speech.

At Abilene’s rally on Tuesday, Gov. Abbott stressed an importance on border security, “When it comes to getting things done, there is nothing more important than getting things done to fight back against [President] Joe Biden’s open border policies. Number one remain in Mexico, Title 42, end catch and release, and build the border wall, Those four policies lead to a dramatic drop of illegal crossings.”
