Election Day In Edison: Who's On The Ballot, How To Vote

EDISON, NJ — This general election Edison voters have more than one way to cast their ballot. But these choices can be overwhelming.

As election day approaches, here's a look at who's on the ballot, how to vote and where to vote in Edisom.

What And Who Are On The Ballot?

  • Presidential race: Residents can either cast a write-in vote or choose, among the major parties, between Republican President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence, or Democratic former Vice President Joe Biden and US Sen. Kamala Harris. Also running are: Don Blankenship/William Mohr (Constitution Party); Howie Hawkins/Angela Nicole Walker (Green); Jo Jorgensen/Spike Cohen (Libertarian); Gloria La Riva/Sunil Freeman (Party for Socialism and Liberation); Roque De La Fuente/Darcy Richardson (The Alliance Party) and Bill Hammons/Eric Bodenstab (Unity Party).

  • US Congress: One US Senate seat will be contested: Incumbent Democrat Cory Booker will face Republican Rik Mehta. All 12 of the state's congressional seats will be decided. New Jersey's delegation to the U.S. House of Representatives is split between 10 Democrats and two Republicans heading into Election Day. See congressional races on your local ballot here.

  • Marijuana legalization/Ballot questions: Voters will decide whether to legalize the possession and use of marijuana. Voters will also decide whether to makes peacetime veterans eligible to receive the veterans' property tax deduction.

  • Also on the ballot is the race for New Jersey's 6th Congressional District, currently represented by Democrat Frank Pallone. He is being challenged by Republican Christian Onuoha.

  • Middlesex County has four candidates vying for two seats on the Board of Chosen Freeholders. Democratic incumbents Charles Tomaro and Leslie Koppel are running against Republican challengers John M. Masculin and Andrew T. Politi.

  • Locally, Edison has three seats up for grabs on the Edison Board of Education. Thirteen candidates are running to fill these seats. Candidates include Ernest Kregeloh, Padmaja Chinta, Yash Pandya, Mohin K. Patel, Jerry Shi Virginia R. White,Clifton Prescod, Sparshil Patel, Brett Baker, Anthony DePasquale, Brian Rivera, Maria Wise and Christo Makropoulos.

Voting registration:

The last date to register to vote in New Jersey was Oct. 13. Use the “Voter Search” tool to make sure your registration status is up to date. You can also use this link to find your voter id and sign up for the “Track My Ballot” tool. Click here: https://voter.svrs.nj.gov/registration-check

How to vote:

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, all registered voters in New Jersey will automatically receive a Vote By Mail ballot, as per Gov. Phil Murphy's Executive Order 177.

If you have not received your ballot yet, call the Office of the County Clerk in New Brunswick, Bayard Street on (732) 745 – 3827.

Those who choose to vote by mail can drop off their signed ballot in the secure drop box located at at the Edison Municipal Complex, 100 Municipal Blvd or the North Edison Library.

If you are mailing your ballot back, it must be postmarked by Nov. 3. If using one of the County's secure drop boxes, or hand-delivering to the Board of Elections or at polling location, the ballot must be delivered by 8 p.m., Nov. 3.

Each person needs to drop off their own ballots.

Edison residents can vote in the following locations on Nov.3.

  • Menlo Park School, 155 Monroe Ave - Districts: 4,35,40,45,50

  • James Monroe School, 7 Sharp Rd.- Districts: 6,7,8,9,10,11,41,46,51,53

  • Edison Municipal Building, 100 Municipal Blvd. -Districts: 29,36,39,42,76,77

  • Woodbrook School, 15 Robin Rd. - Districts: 3,5,30,34,58,62,71,73

  • Martin Luther King, 285 Tingley Ln. - District: 1,43,64,66,67,68

  • JP Stevens High School, 855 Grove Ave. 78 - District: 2,32,33,44,54,65,69,70,72

  • Edison High School, 50 Boulevard of Eagles - District: 14,15,16,17,18,21,22,24, 25,37,52,55

  • Thomas Jefferson Middle School, 450 Division St. - District: 23,26,27,28,31,38,48,49, 56,59,60,75

  • Grace Reform Church, 2815 Woodbridge Ave. 74 - District: 12,13,19,20,47,57,61,63,

The boxes are under surveillance 24/7 and the Vote-By-Mail ballots (VBMs) will be picked up on a daily basis and brought to the Board of Elections.

Since the change to this year's election was announced by Murphy, there have been many questions about how the process will work. Below is some further reading on the Nov. 3 election process:

A primarily vote-by-mail election means a lot of changes to election day. See what you can expect this November.
