Election day is Nov. 8. Here’s everything you need to know about voting in 2022

LAS CRUCES – The midterms have arrived.

The 2022 general election descends upon the county as everything from legislative seats, the sheriff’s office, county positions, congressional representatives and the state’s governor go up for grabs. The election ends Nov. 8.

Here’s everything you need to know before heading to the polls.

Registration, deadlines and polling centers

With the implantation of same-day registration, interested residents can register minutes before voting early or on election day.

But for those looking to vote and bolt, the last day to register online or via mail-in is Oct. 11. To register online, go to the New Mexico Secretary of State’s voter registration page at https://portal.sos.state.nm.us/OVR/WebPages/InstructionsStep1.aspx.

Oct. 11 is also the same day early voting begins. Doña Ana County voters looking to vote before Oct. 22 will have to vote at the Doña Ana County Government Center at 845 North Motel Boulevard.

Voters can cast ballots from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends.

Early voting expands outward from Las Cruces beginning on Oct. 22. After that, polling stations across the county open, including:

  • Anthony City Hall Municipal Complex in Anthony

  • Delores C. Wright Education Center in Chaparral

  • Hatch High School in Hatch

  • Las Cruces City Hall, NMSU Corbett Center

  • Sonoma Elementary School in Las Cruces

  • Mesilla Town Hall in Mesilla

  • Doña Ana Community College in Sunland Park

The last day to vote early is Nov. 5. The last day to submit an absentee ballot application is Nov. 3. All Absentee ballots must be received by the county before 7 p.m. on Nov. 8.

On election day, the county will open 42 centers for voters to cast ballots. Those locations are:

  • Anthony City Hall Municipal Complex

  • Berino Elementary School

  • Camino Real Middle School

  • Chaparral Middle School

  • Corbett Center- NMSU

  • Del Cerro Community Center

  • Desert Hills Elementary School

  • Desert View Elementary School

  • Doña Ana Community Center

  • Doña Ana County Government Center

  • East Picacho Elementary School

  • Fairacres Elementary School

  • Frank O'Brien Papen Center (Mesilla Park Recreation Center)

  • Gadsden Middle School

  • Garfield Elementary School

  • Good Samaritan Social Center

  • Hatch High School

  • Highland Elementary

  • Jornada Elementary School

  • La Mesa Volunteer Fire Department

  • La Union Elementary School

  • Las Alturas Fire Station

  • Las Cruces High School

  • Las Cruces City Hall

  • Loma Heights Elementary

  • Lynn Middle School

  • Mayfield High school

  • Mesilla Elementary School

  • Mesquite Elementary School

  • New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum

  • North Valley Elementary School

  • Organ Mountain High School

  • Organ Community Center

  • Radium Springs Community Center
