New election to be held after NC poll worker told voters that living candidate was dead
A new election will be held for a town commissioner seat in Surry County after the North Carolina State Board of Elections found that a poll worker may have tainted the election results.
According to state investigators, a poll worker in Surry County is accused of telling some voters that two of the candidates running for a seat on the Dobson Town Commission were dead. Four people, in total, were in the running.
While one candidate did pass away, the other candidate was alive, and they filed a complaint protesting the results.

The state board says that pointing out a deceased candidate may have influenced voters’ choices and cast doubt on the election.
The new election will be held on March 7.
