It appears that incumbent and Vice Mayor Michael Dacquisto has won a second term on the Redding City Council.

With all the precincts reporting Tuesday night, Dacquisto, an attorney, is the top vote getter with 18%.

“I appreciate the support of the community and I congratulate all the winners and I am looking forward to four more years," Dacquisto said.

He said his transparency while on the council was rewarded Tuesday.

“I think the citizens and public appreciated my openness, my honesty and transparency and appreciated the fact that when I voted, I voted in the best interests of the citizens of Redding, and I think the fact I was the top vote getter supports that view,” Dacquisto said.

6 a.m.: Original Story

A crowded field of challengers and one incumbent are vying for three seats on the Redding City Council.

There are 10 candidates on the ballot for Tuesday’s election.

Vice Mayor Michael Dacquisto is seeking to keep his seat and earn a second term on the council.

The other two seats opened up when Mayor Kristen Schreder decided not to run for re-election and Councilwoman Erin Resner chose to seek a seat on the Shasta County Board of Supervisors.

The challengers include two people who ran in 2018 and lost: James Crockett, a Shasta College instructor; and Jack Munns, a retired Reno police sergeant who also worked in the casino industry.

The seven other challengers are Tenessa Audette, Ian Hill, Joshua Johnson, Marcus Partin, Alex Shea, Jordan Valenzuela and Kymberly Vollmers.

Audette is a district representative for state Sen. Brian Dahle; Hill works for the Shasta County clerk and elections office; Partin is a business owner and developer; Shea is a housing finance executive; Valenzuela is a business owner; and Vollmers is an educator and home-schooling advocate.

The election comes at a time when Redding continues to struggle to ease the city’s homeless crisis. The unsheltered population and what to do to build more affordable housing to help them is a common theme among the candidates.

Public safety and growing the local economy are also ideas and goals the candidates share.

Six candidates compete for two seats on Shasta Lake City Council

Two seats are open on the Shasta Lake City Council. A third seat vacated by Matt Doyle will be filled by a special election March 7.

Incumbent Pamelyn Morgan has been on the council since 2012 and is seeking another term. Mayor Rick Kern is not running for reelection.

One of the choices on Tuesday's ballot is a familiar name. Former Councilwoman Dolores Lucero served from 2009 until she was ousted from office in a recall election on April 10, 2012.

In 2014, Lucero was convicted of presenting false evidence in court documents aimed at stopping the recall election that ousted her from office. Lucero alleged that a woman circulating a recall petition against her was ineligible to do so because she was not a resident of Shasta Lake. She was sentenced to 30 days in jail and placed on probation for three years.

Also on Tuesday’s ballot are construction manager Justin Jones; Julia Screechfield, a retired service representative; Tena Eisenbeisz, a branch office administrator; and Jim Mark.

Both Jones and Eisenbeisz serve on the Shasta Lake Planning Commission.

Two seats open on Anderson City Council

Voters in Anderson will have three choices to fill two seats on the City Council.

Incumbent Mike Gallagher is seeking reelection. On his candidate statement, Gallagher states he has a background in the trades, construction and business.

Also running is Amarjit Singh, who is a community organizer and minister. Among the organizations that he has been involved with are Shasta County Citizens Advocating Respect and Shasta County Interfaith Forum.

The third candidate on the ballot is business owner Dan Gallier.
