Election results: Ding with slight early lead in San Joaquin County Supervisor District 4 race

Steve Ding maintained a lead over Steve Colangelo in returns Wednesday morning in the for San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors, District 4.

Ding had received 8,843 votes, 52.07%; and Colangelo 8,141 votes for 47.93%.

Ding spent election night with family, friends and other supporters at a viewing party at his Woodbridge restaurant.

“I'm very proud. Not just the campaign but my family and my team at the restaurant that has had to fill in gaps and help them,” Ding said on Tuesday. “I think we have a lot to be proud of. We ran a very clean campaign, an issue-oriented campaign. I think the voters are going to respect that. And it'll be a successful night.”

Colangelo could not be reached for comment.

Ding is former chief of staff to U.S. Rep. Richard Pombo. In the June primary, Ding received 21.39% of the vote and Colangelo, a businessman, received 20.28%.

Ding, 59, owner of Woodbridge Crossing Restaurant, said during an interview with The Record that he is looking to be the "collaborative expert" who brings people together to address issues.

Colangelo, 62, said in an answer on a questionnaire that he wants to lower costs for families in San Joaquin County.

Chuck Winn is completing his second term as the District 4 representative.
