Election results: Duff, Mayrhofen lead for two Mission Springs Water District seats

Amber Duff and Ted Mayrhofen were leading on Thursday in their respective races for the Mission Springs Water District's board of directors.

As of Thursday morning, payroll administrator Duff was ahead in Division 1 with 637 votes, trailed by incumbent Nancy Wright with 626 votes. Prior to Thursday morning, Wright was consistently leading in results released on Tuesday and Wednesday. There are 4,650 total voters in Division 1.

Duff started her career as a legal secretary and now is a director of cancer treatment centers. Wright has served on the MSWD board since 1988 and has served on the California Regional Water Quality Control Board, Colorado River Basin Region, since 2000.

In Division 5, environmental horticulturalist and former Desert Hot Springs planning commissioner Mayrhofen wa with 166 votes, followed by attorney and Realtor Andrew Alder-LaRue with 140 votes and retired businessman Alan "Alfie" Petit with 99 votes. There are 3,483 total voters in Division 5.

Formed in 1953 to provide water to a territory covering 1 square mile, MSWD now serves 135 square miles in and around Desert Hot Springs, the valley's fastest-growing city.
