It's election time in Lafayette. Here's what to know.
Voting for statewide races — including governor, attorney general and others — as well as more than a dozen local races in Lafayette Parish has officially kicked off, with nearly 3,700 Lafayette voters going to the polls on the first day of early voting.
Early voting for the Oct. 14 election, which includes statewide races for Louisiana’s biggest political offices and legislative races, as well as races for city council, parish council, school board and other local offices, kicked off this weekend and runs through Saturday.
Here’s what you need to know before going to the polls:
How long does early voting last, and where are the polls located?
Early voting will run through Oct. 7, with polls open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Lafayette Parish has three locations for early voting: the registrar of voters office at 1010 Lafayette St., Suite 313 in Lafayette, the Martin Luther King Recreation Center at 309 Cora St. in Lafayette and the East Regional Library at 215 La Neuville Rd. in Youngsville.
When is the actual election day?
Election day will be Oct. 14. For voting on election day, voters need to go to the voting location assigned to their precinct. For more information on finding designated voting locations, check the Louisiana Secretary of State website.
Who’s on the ballot?
Here’s what all is on the ballot in Lafayette Parish, though not all races will be on every voter’s ballot, depending on where they live in the parish. Voters can see their specific sample ballots on the Louisiana Secretary of State website.
