Electra man pleads guilty to shooting at girlfriend

A 48-year-old Electra man pleaded guilty Thursday to shooting at his girlfriend, court records show.

Jason Todd Holmes was placed on probation in 89th District Court for a charge of deadly conduct-discharge of a firearm at an individual in connection with an April 2021 incident in Electra.

Presiding Judge Jim Hogan ordered Holmes to serve five years of deferred-adjudication probation and pay a $750 fine as part of a plea bargain in connection with an April 2, 2021, incident in Electra. Holmes waived his right to appeal.

If he successfully serves his term of community supervision, he can avoid a conviction and have his record expunged.

The victim in the case filed an affidavit July 21, requesting Holmes not be prosecuted, saying she didn't want to testify and was not coerced to sign the document.

In April 2021, she told Electra police Holmes pulled a handgun from his pocket and fired it at her during an argument, according to allegations in a police affidavit. He hit a bed. She was afraid he would shoot her.

So she tried for the front door, but he stopped her, according to allegations. When he did let her leave, he got in the car with her, carrying the gun. Holmes threw the weapon out of the window and got out of the car when he saw she was frightened.
