On Sunday afternoon, firefighters with the Phoenix Fire Department responded to an electric semi-truck on fire at the Nikola Corporation in Phoenix.

According to the Phoenix Fire Department, hazmat firefighters responded to the fire at around 2 p.m. on Sunday after a truck that had previously burned, reignited again with its battery cells igniting.

According to a statement provided by Nicole Rose, a spokesperson for Nikola Corporation, the fire was quickly contained.

"We thank the Phoenix Fire Department for their swift response. The damaged trucks have remained at the company’s HQ site for safety monitoring and the ongoing investigations," Rose said. Officials say that hundreds of gallons were used to fight the burning batteries that were more than 800 degrees. The smoke from fires like these is extremely toxic, but no injuries from smoke inhalation have been reported, according to the department.

No traffic restrictions were in place in the area.
