Electrical fire closes Caddo Parish Courthouse, injures one Sunday morning

The Caddo Parish Courthouse will be closed until further notice following a fire Sunday morning.

According to Clarence Reese, assistant to the Fire Chief, a worker using a drill penetrated some electrical wiring resulting in a, "flash burn with very serious injuries. He did catch fire and is in critical condition."

The unidentified worker was transported to a local hospital.

The lowest floor on the Marshall Street side of the courthouse sustained smoke and fire damage, setting off the sprinkler system extinguishing the fire.

Fire investigators are investigating the cause of the fire.

The courthouse, including the district attorney's office, will remain closed to repair damage to the facility’s main power distribution system, which has caused an electrical outage. During this time, all offices located in the courthouse will be closed.

Some services are available online or at satellite offices:

  • Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office (Courthouse Operations): Citizens can still pay fines and bonds online at www.caddosheriff.org or in person at CPSO substations. Taxes can still be paid online or by US Mail at the address listed on the tax notice.

  • Caddo Parish Clerk of Court: Citizens that wish to obtain a birth certificate or marriage license will need to visit the Bossier Parish or Desoto Parish Clerk of Court. There will be a satellite office providing limited services (emergency civil suits and mortgages/conveyances only) located at the Caddo Parish Juvenile Clerk of Court

  • Defendants will be notified of new court dates.

  • Protective orders can be filed at the Caddo Parish Juvenile Court's Clerk of Court office.
