Electrolux and Frigidaire Refrigerators Recalled Due to Choking Hazard
The ice level arm of these fridges’ icemakers can break into pieces and fall into the ice bucket, creating a choking hazard

Electrolux, which also owns Frigidaire, has issued a recall for more than 370,000 Electrolux and Frigidaire refrigerators sold in the U.S. and Canada. The icemakers in these refrigerators have an ice level arm that can break into pieces and fall into the ice bucket, creating a choking hazard.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recall notice states that there have been 185 reports to Electrolux of the ice level arm breaking, including one report involving gum lacerations. The recall covers 14 models in total—including 11 Frigidaire side-by-side models, one Frigidaire French-door model, one Frigidaire top-freezer model, and one Electrolux French-door model—with specific serial number ranges. A recall has also been issued in Canada for 7,180 units sold there.
The affected models are: PRMC2285AF, ERMC2295AS, FRSS2323AB, FRSS2323AW, FRSS2323AD, FRSS2323AS, FRSS2333AS, FRSS2623AB, FRSS2623AW, FRSS2623AD, FRSS2623AS, FRSS2633AS, FRSS26L3AF, and FFHI1835VS. For the serial number ranges of the affected models, see the CPSC recall notice.
Of the models subjected to the recall, three side-by-side models are in our refrigerator ratings. Our engineers did not experience this issue while the fridges were under evaluation in the lab. They are the Frigidaire FRSS2323AS, Frigidaire FRSS26L3AF, and Frigidaire FRSS2623AS.
If you own one of the affected models within the specified serial code ranges, you should immediately stop using the refrigerator icemaker, empty the ice bucket, and contact Electrolux. The company will replace the icemaker for free.
Details of the Electrolux and Frigidaire Refrigerator Recall
The recall: This recall includes units of one Electrolux model and 13 Frigidaire models with specific serial number ranges. The affected models are the Electrolux-branded ERMC2295AS French-door refrigerator, as well as the Frigidaire-branded PRMC2285AF French-door refrigerator, FFHI1835VS top-freezer refrigerator, and the FRSS2323AB, FRSS2323AW, FRSS2323AD, FRSS2323AS, FRSS2333AS, FRSS2623AB, FRSS2623AW, FRSS2623AD, FRSS2623AS, FRSS2633AS, and FRSS26L3AF side-by-side refrigerators. Incidents/injuries: There have been 185 reports to Electrolux of the ice level arm breaking, including one report involving gum lacerations.
How many: About 367,500 units in the U.S. and 7,180 units in Canada.
Where and when sold: These refrigerators were sold nationwide at Home Depot, Lowe’s, and other appliance retailers, as well as online at Frigidaire.com. They were sold from April 2020 through March 2022 for $1,200 to $4,300.
The remedy: Shut off the refrigerator icemaker, empty the ice bucket, and contact Electrolux as soon as possible to schedule an in-home service visit. The company will replace the icemaker with a new one that has a polypropylene ice level detector for free.
