Eleven Berks players earn All-State first-team honors in field hockey

Dec. 7—Eleven Berks players have been voted to the Pennsylvania State Field Hockey Coaches Association All-State first teams, it was announced Wednesday.

Wilson, the Berks champ and District 3 Class 3A and PIAA Class 3A runners-up, and Oley Valley each had three first-team selections. Twin Valley had two first-team picks.

Wilson's Erika Culp and Berks Catholic's Aubreigh Uba, both seniors, were first-team selections for the third straight season.

Joining Culp, the Berks Player of the Year, on the Class 3A first team were Wilson seniors Catherine Arentz and Emma Staron, and Boyertown senior Katelyn Dulin.

Arentz and Dulin were first-team picks for the second straight year. Staron made the second team last year.

In Class 2A, making the first team were Twin Valley's Maddie Stevens and Hannah Schmittinger and Muhlenberg's Sarah Althouse.

Stevens, a junior goalie, and Schmittinger, a senior, were repeat first-team picks. Althouse, a senior goalie, made the second team last year for the second straight season.

Joining Uba on the Class 1A first team were three repeat selections from Oley Valley: senior Alexandra Lopez, junior Morgan Snyder and junior Taylor Vaccaro.

The Lynx were the District 3 Class 1A runner-up.

Nine Berks players received second-team honors.

In Class 3A, Wilson sophomore Caroline Horace, Boyertown sophomore Peyton Shellaway and Boyertown senior goalie Sarah Yoder made the second team.

Second-team picks in Class 2A were Daniel Boone junior Marlee Fetrow, Daniel Boone junior Hannah Huddleson and Twin Valley junior Hadley Munn. All three made the second team last year.

In Class 1A, Berks Catholic senior Mallory Buzydlowski, Oley Valley junior Molly Rothenberger, and Wyomissing senior goalie Kaitlyn Brunner were second-team picks.

Four more players earned honorable mention: Wilson seniors Natalie Riccitelli and Sydney Stuhl in Class 3A, and Twin Valley senior Paige Shannon and Twin Valley junior Laura Soska in Class 2A.

Eleven Berks teams — Berks Catholic, Boyertown, Brandywine Heights, Conrad Weiser, Daniel Boone, Muhlenberg, Oley Valley, Schuylkill Valley, Twin Valley, Wilson and Wyomissing — earned team grade-point average awards.
