Eleven-year-old boy killed in Friday morning rollover crash in Brimfield

An 11-year-old boy was killed Friday after a rollover crash Friday morning involving the vehicle his father was driving.

Donald Robinson, a student at Field Middle School, was a passenger in the SUV driven by his father, Donald Robinson, 35, of Kent, said Trooper Matthew Langston of the Ravenna post of the Ohio Highway Patrol. Robinson's 13-year-old daughter and 9-year-old son, both students at Field, were injured in the crash.

The single-vehicle crash took place at 7:44 a.m. Friday on Sunnybrook Road in Brimfield.

The SUV, a black 2008 Infiniti QX56, was traveling south on Sunnybrook Road in Brimfield. It drove off the right side of the road and struck an embankment that caused it to overturn several times, ejecting Robinson and his three children.

The Suffield Fire Department transported Robinson to Akron City Hospital, while the children were taken to Akron Children's Hospital by Brimfield, Mogadore and Tallmadge fire departments. The younger Donald Robinson was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The crash remains under investigation. Langston said speed is believed to be a factor, and no one was wearing a seat belt.

Parents in the Field district were reportedly notified about the crash by the school district.

The road was shut down Friday morning and later reopened.
