Nominations sought for Hanover community service awards

Nominations are being accepted through Friday, Feb. 23, for the 2024 Annual Hanover Township Supervisor Brian P. McGuire Community Service Awards.

The awards are designed to recognize organizations and individuals who volunteer their time to make Hanover Township an outstanding place to live, work and raise a family, according to a news release.

People and organizations can be nominated in any of the follow categories:

  • Adult Volunteer Service Award (18 or older);

  • Youth Volunteer Volunteer Service Award (under 18);

  • Senior Volunteer Service Award (55 or older);

  • Business Community Service Award;

  • Service Club/Organization.

Lenten/spring concert series being held Sundays at First Congregational

Three Lenten/spring concerts will be held at 4 p.m. Feb. 25, March 10 and March 24 at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 256 E. Chicago St., Elgin.

The Judson University Choir will be performing Feb. 25, followed by sopranos Kathleen Monson and Kristina Bachrach and pianist Marianne Kim on March 10, and the Chicago Harp Quartet on March 24.

All three concerts are free and open to the public. Free-will offerings will be accepted.

CASA Kane County hosting Children’s Champion Gala March 2

CASA Kane County will host its 30th Annual Children’s Champion Celebration Gala at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, March 2, at the Q Center, 1405 N. 5th Ave., St. Charles.

Featuring the theme “Change a Child’s Story,” the event will include dinner, music, dancing, a grand raffle, and live and silent auctions items, according to a news release. Proceeds from the event will support CASA Kane County’s mission of advocating for children who have experienced abuse and neglect.

Benefit to raise money for second-annual Elgin Pride Parade and Festival

Applications are now available for vendors, parade groups and sponsors that want to take part in the second annaul Elgin Pride Parade and Festival being held Saturday, June 1, in downtown Elgin.

To raise money for the events, organizers are hosting the Big Queer Variety Show at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 9, at The Haight, 166 Symphony Way, Elgin. The event will feature a variety of queer performers and entertainers, pizza, a cash bar, a raffle and music, according to a news release.
