Elk Grove closer to being connected to Silicon Valley by rail

(FOX40.COM) — Sacramento County will soon have a direct connection to Silicon Valley by rail after land was acquired to construct a station in Elk Grove, according to the City of Elk Grove.

In late January, the San Joaquin Regional Rail Commission made steps in a multi-year project to bring the Altamont Corridor Express rail service into the city.

This new station is the first new station announced in Sacramento County as part of ACE’s and San Joaquin Regional Rail’s mission to expand services into the capital city.

“The railway expansion marks a significant improvement in connectivity to the Bay Area and the Silicon Valley for Elk Grove and the Sacramento region’s residents, businesses, and employees, making Elk Grove an even more compelling destination for entrepreneurs and companies seeking to initiate or expand their businesses there,” the city wrote in a newsletter.

ACE and San Joaquin Regional Rail are also looking to build stations in Natomas with a shuttle to the Sacramento International Airport, Old North Sacramento, Midtown and Sacramento City College.

Stockton is currently the only existing ACE and San Joaquin Regional Rail station in the Sacramento region.

The final design of the station is scheduled to be completed sometime in 2024 and construction is expected to be concluded by late 2026.
