ELKHART — First Presbyterian Church presents a workshop on Pyansky — the art of Ukrainian egg decoration — from 2 to 5 p.m. March 12 at 200 E. Beardsley Ave.

Pastor Sally Wicks has practiced the ancient art of Ukrainian Easter egg decoration for years.

In a press release, she said, “The egg decorating is done on raw eggs with metal tipped styluses warmed by candle flame and dipped in beeswax. The designs are then drawn on the eggs and dipped in successive dyes to create a truly extraordinary egg.”

Attendees should bring a soft hand towel or kitchen towel to cradle and protect the egg and a small padded box or egg carton in which to transport the egg home.

Special snacks and Ukrainian treats will be available, and donations will be accepted for aid for Ukrainian refugees and war victims and aid to Syria and Turkey earthquake victims.

Admission is free.

Attendance is limited to 100 participants and is open to children, youth and adults.
