Elkhorn, DSHA, Eisenhower take home state girls tennis titles in individual tournament

On Saturday afternoon, three different area girls tennis programs won state titles at the individual tournament held in Madison.

Elkhorn's Parker Christensen, Divine Savior Holy Angels doubles pairing of Molly Jex and Lizzie Stuckslager, and New Berlin Eisenhower's top doubles team of Maia Samuelson and Ava Meyer won three of the four possible championships.

Christensen found some sweet redemption after falling in the Division 1 state title match a season ago as a freshman with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Muskego's Emily Pan to cap a perfect season in style.

Jex and Stuckslager pulled off the upset in the semifinals 7-5, 6-3 over the top-ranked duo from De Pere in the Division 1 doubles tournament and then finished off their impressive run to the title against Cedarburg's Zoe Larson and Carly O'Leary in the final.

DSHA's Molly Jex competes at the Arrowhead tennis invitational in Hartland last August. Jex and Lizzie Stuckslager won a Division 1 doubles pairing championship at the WIAA state girls tennis tournament Saturday in Madison.

In the Division 2 doubles tournament, Samuelson and Meyer steamrolled their way through the bracket as the top-seeded team, winning all four matches following their bye in the opening round in straight sets, including the final over East Troy's top pairing of Sophia Rondeau and Katie Metcalf, 6-4, 6-1.

Christensen and Pan took the top two spots in the tournament with Milwaukee Reagan sophomore Natalie Stanula finishing in fourth place. Whitefish Bay's Clare Schaefer finished sixth. DSHA's Carolyn Schaefer rounded out the area qualifiers that advanced to the quarterfinals in the bracket. Christensen also became the second consecutive area player to win the Division 1 title as an undefeated player with former Franklin player Kaede Usui accomplishing the same feat last season.
