Elleda Wilson: Beer powder

Mar. 30—"Take: Neuzeller beer powder plus water: Looks like beer! Tastes like beer! Is beer!" the monastery brewery Klosterbrauerei Neuzelle in Germany proclaims on their website. "With a real head of foam! Alcohol-free for the time being!" No, it's not a bad April Fools' Day joke.

The dextrin-rich water-soluble beer powder is the product of almost two years of research, and is ready to be marketed in small quantities. Needless to say, among other environmental concerns, if this is successful, the monastery will save bucket loads avoiding water weight shipping costs.

And here's more (possibly) good news: "In the next step, alcohol should also be bound in the beer powder." (Photo: TheSun.co.uk)
