An often-overlooked resident of Oregon is the llama; one-fourth of the nation's llamas live in the Beaver State. Cheese lovers will be relieved to know that the the Tillamook Cheese Factory produces 171,000 pounds of cheese daily.

It's said that Oregon is the state with the most ghost towns; most of them are in Eastern, Southern and Central Oregon, TravelOregon.com says. Astoria might win on the number of ghosts, if local stories are true.

And, last but not least, the oldest pair of sandals in the world, dated at around 10,000 years old, were found at Fort Rock Cave in central Oregon in 1938.
