Elleda Wilson: Lost in Astoria

May 19—With interest, the Ear read "Astoria: Why It's Any Traveler's Perfect First Oregon Trip," on TheTravel.com. Referring to Astoria's rich history, the writer declared that here "the British and Americans existed without any conflicts." Not really.

Then he goes on to describe the Astoria riverfront, better known as the Astoria Riverwalk, "3 miles adjacent to the Columbus River." Um, OK.

He was pretty impressed by the Astoria Column, especially the "winding path with over 160 steps." Did someone remove the stairs recently?

But what really stopped the Ear short was the "multiple cuisines and restaurants" section of Astoria's review. The first was Taverna Kyclades, a Greek-style eatery with lamb chops. Huh?

Then there was Vesta Trattoria & Wine Bar, with "Italian delicacies," Kal and Pye Boat Noodle. What? In case you haven't already guessed, all of the restaurants are in Astoria, New York, not Oregon.

The question is: Should we tell him?
