Ellen DeGeneres shared her thoughts this week on the recent hospitalization of her ex-partner, Anne Heche, after Heche crashed her car into a home. In Santa Barbara, Calif., a paparazzi photographer asked DeGeneres how she felt about the recent car accident.
DeGeneres was questioned about the state of her ex and whether they have kept in touch. “No, have not. We’re not in touch with each other, so I wouldn’t know,” she replied.
The couple began dating in 1997 and ended their relationship in 2000.
In response to being asked if she will be giving well-wishes for Anne’s recovery, DeGeneres said, "I don't want anyone to be hurt.”
The cameraman proposed soon after, "It was quite a dangerous accident that happened, wasn't it?"
The 64-year-old former talk show host replied, “Sure was.”
Heche is currently in a coma from a 90-mph car collision that occurred on the morning of Friday, August 5th. The actress crashed her blue Mini Cooper into a two-story home. She was pulled from the vehicle after it combusted, but the fire it caused destroyed the home and required nearly 60 firefighters to put out. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
Police obtained a warrant to draw blood from the actor, CNN reported. Authorities are investigating Heche for misdemeanor DUI and hit and run after the crash. An LAPD officer told the outlet that they are still waiting on the results of the blood tests.
"At this time, Anne is in extreme critical condition," Heche’s rep told Deadline on Monday. "She has a significant pulmonary injury requiring mechanical ventilation and burns that require surgical intervention."
The rep continued, “She is in a coma and has not regained consciousness since shortly after the accident.”
The tenant of the home that burned down from the accident, Lynne Mishele, released a statement to Entertainment Tonight through her lawyer, Shawn Hollet. “Ms. Mishele is devastated by what happened to her on Friday — not only because she and her pets almost lost their lives, but because all of her property, including items of profound sentimental value, were destroyed," she said. "She asks for privacy at this incredibly difficult time."
There is now a GoFundMe page, which has raised more than $130,000 to help pay for damages.
As Heche’s family continues to process the crash, a source told Entertainment Tonight that, “Her family is on pins and needles, just praying.”
