Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi List Oceanfront Carpinteria Home for $24 Million

They purchased it for $18.6 million less than two years ago

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi are back at it. The avid house flippers recently put a stunning Carpinteria oceanfront estate on the market for $24 million, less than two years after purchasing it for $18.6 million. The home, located about two hours north of Los Angeles, sits on more than an acre of land and spans a generous 6,862 square feet, with three (or possibly four) bedrooms and four-and-a-half bathrooms. There is, additionally, a 900-square-foot detached guesthouse with another bedroom, bathroom, and spacious living room featuring a wet bar and fireplace.

The main house is accessible via a long, eucalyptus-lined drive that passes by the multilevel guest house (and a lighted tennis court) before landing at the front door. Inside is an entrance foyer followed by an open-plan living room with high ceilings, pale wood floors, and wall after wall of glass sliders looking out onto the coast. One seating area includes a sleek, minimalist fireplace; another boasts a double-height ceiling and room enough for two extra-deep plush couches facing off against each other. An outdoor wooden deck with yet more lounge space is accessible through glass sliders from the former living area; an enclosed courtyard with an outdoor fireplace is accessible via the latter. The kitchen is also opens onto the courtyard, and has stainless steel appliances and a large center island with gas burners.

Elsewhere on the main floor is a separate wing with two bedrooms, each with gorgeous ocean views and roomy en suite bathrooms. Upstairs is a spacious, minimalist master suite, composed of an unusual open-plan bathroom with a deep-soaking tub parked right in front of a modern fireplace, a skylight-topped walk-in closet, a dressing room, and even a fitness room with rubber flooring. Two ocean-facing balconies are accessible from the master suite.

The property offers direct access to the beach via a gated path. While strolling on the sand, one might run into any number of A-list neighbors, including George Lucas or Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis, who bought their nearby oceanfront compound for $10.1 million in the summer of 2017.

Though it’s only June, the talk show host and the actress have had a busy real estate year already: In May, they dropped $42.5 million for a Beverly Hills mansion previously owned by Adam Levine, and they listed a Hollywood historic Regency villa for $17.95 million. In February, DeGeneres and de Rossi picked up a $27 million Bali-inspired compound in the mountains above Santa Barbara, while listing another 10-acre Santa Barbara home for $8.95 million.
