A local couple received national recognition and a check on the Ellen DeGeneres show last week after their Ring doorbell and the Blue Ash Fire Department saved the family from a carbon monoxide leak in their home.

Andre and Maria Texier sat down with Ellen DeGeneres to recount the story of how their Ring doorbell saved their family from possible carbon monoxide poisoning.

The family had just moved into their home in Blue Ash in November after living in an apartment in Boston. As they were wrapping up lunch, Maria Texier told DeGeneres, they heard an alarm but not the fire alarm – something different, one they hadn't heard before.

Andre Texier came up from the basement and told Maria he had just received a call from Ring. The video doorbell company informed him there was a carbon monoxide alarm going off and that the fire department was on the way. The family was instructed to leave the house immediately.

The Blue Ash Fire Department arrived a few minutes later, checking the family for any symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning and began looking around the house for possible leaks.

Ring footage shows the firefighters entering and searching through the house for the leak. Andre Texier said it was found in a fireplace in the basement, close to his workspace and son Alexander's room.

Andre Texier said he had been having headaches prior to the alarm going off but attributed it to working long days from home.

"You don't see it, you don't smell it, there's nothing that hits you," Maria Texier said. "So you have to be always careful and have your batteries."

In a Facebook message to the city of Blue Ash, Andre Texier wrote: “A big shout out to the Blue Ash Fire Department for getting to our house to help save us."

Toward the end of their appearance on the show, DeGeneres surprised the Texiers with a check for $20,000 from Ring.
