‘Ellen’ show features good deeds by Missouri firefighters – then they won a big prize

Ellen DeGeneres featured Missouri firefighters on her TV show for good deeds they’re doing in the community.

Then they won a huge cash prize.

“The Ellen Show” welcomed the couple Kelley and Todd McNeely, who’s a Webster Groves firefighter, on set for the episode that aired Monday afternoon.

Todd McNeely started the nonprofit organization Webster Groves Firefighters Community Outreach, which is funded by firefighters pitching in part of their paychecks to help people in need.

“We give back to the community around us,” McNeely said during the show. “So we build like sidewalks for people that need better wheelchair access, we give away scholarships for high schools, we do service dogs.”

While talking to DeGeneres, she surprised the couple with fellow firefighters waiting backstage and others in live-stream video from inside the fire department.

Then the couple rolled giant dice for a chance to win cash in a real-life version of the phone app game “Ellen’s Road to Riches Slots.”

DeGeneres finished the segment with presenting the couple and the fire department each with $25,000 checks in a partnership with Cheerios.

“We want to help that continue, for you guys to do good with your nonprofit, so we’re also going to give your firehouse a little upgrade,” DeGeneres said.
